Mickey Mouse Birthday Party!

Our youngest turned 2 in August, so I decided that since she LOVVVEEESSS Mickey Mouse, we'd do a Mickey Mouse birthday party! I wanted to keep it minimal because this summer has REALLY worn me out...but less worked out to be more, in this case.

Here are some pictures of the decorations!

The cake and cupcakes were made by an AMAZING and talented friend, aren't they GREAT?!?!

Super simple decoration: a painted clay pot, tissue paper and mickey mouse cutouts glued to skewers!

The banner was made out of mickey mouse cutouts from posters! Really cheap, and oh, so cute!

The cupcake stand is made of plates and painted candle holders!

 The princess herself! She had a wonderful day!

Laminate Flooring-Halfway Done!

Well hello there, friends!

 Here we are, in AUGUST, which means that it's almost my favorite season of the year-FALL!!!! However, that ALSO means we've zoomed through the summer, and the break is coming to an end. Boooooo.

We are going camping for the first time as a family Thursday. I must say, I'm slightly nervous. But I've read quite a few blogs with camping tips on them, so I believe I'll be a little more prepared and ready to conquer tent camping. And, if all else fails, I'll just hop in my parents' 31 Ft. RV next to us. HAH! Camping with 2 toddlers will be a unique experience, that's for sure!

 So we've been slaving away the past week trying to get our laminate floors in. We're halfway done. The living room and most of the hallway is done; next is the dining area and kitchen. Oh Lord, have mercy on my knees!

 Here's a few pics of our progress-I'm LOVING how it looks. When we're finished, I'll post before and after photos....the tile we covered up (yes, you heard that right: we put laminate OVER TILE) was hideous. JUST HIDEOUS.

We still need to add the molding all around the walls, but we LOVVVEEE the way it's turning out! It looks great....and SO MUCH BETTER than the tile. But oh, you'll see. YOU'LL SEE.

So it's back to work this weekend!

Happy Friday everyone!!

A Sweet Girl's Birthday

Hey guys! I promise you all, I'm reading blogs....just not updating because I'm out there, doing 1290437325894723984723984 things at once! Summer seems to do that to a person.

This past weekend, we celebrated our sweet daughter's 3rd birthday! She's our girl with paralyzed vocal cords....if you haven't read her story, you can read it HERE

 She had a BLAST. I decorated her table....It always seems like pictures never do the finished product justice: it's one of those, you had to be there, things.

 Here's her table-

 The picture was an engineering print from Staples, $3 and some change! I put it on insulation board, and painted the edges.
The "3" is also insulation board, covered in glue and pink glitter.
The sticks are spray painted yellow, and decorated with yarn pom poms!
 Paper lollies in the front.
 Painted table cloth
Painted vases.
All the works.

I'll have to do a post about the vases, FROSTED GLASS Spray paint is ahhhhhhSOME!

It was a HAPPY BIRTHDAY, indeed!

Now it's time to plan my next daughter's birthday!
(They're 12 months and 10 days apart. FUN FUN FUN.)

Keep cool, blogging friends!

The 5 minute earrings!

Hi everyone!

 Today I want to share with you how to make the easiest.earrings.EVER.

 Here's some background info first....

 I don't wear earrings. Like, EVER. I have many holes in my ears, but I don't wear earrings anymore because I just feel WEIRD wearing them. Like I look funny.

(I do, however, have my tragus pierced, but I've had those for years now, and don't consider them dressy earrings)

 Well, I want to branch out. Live on the wild side. Be fashionable, and wear earrings. But picky, I am.

 So I'm going to share with you earrings that I made in 5 (yes, FIVE) minutes!

I took these cute little charms found in the jewelry dept at Michael's for $2.79 and a pair of ugly earrings that came with a necklace I bought awhile back.

 I took off the beads on the earrings, used a jump ring to attach the actual earring to each charm, and there it was! A gorgeous set of earrings for $2.79!

 When I wore them out and asked my boys how they looked, they laughed...HARD. They're just not used to seeing me with earrings. I'm very tomboyish when I'm not dressed up. But the longer I leave them in, the more I like them.

 Here's to a future in earrings!

Nails!

Hi all! Are you enjoying your summer so far? We are! Seems we're keeping busy, which is always fun. The weather is becoming REALLY hot though, so we're keeping the air running almost all day! Desert living at its finest!

 So today I'm gonna share with you a simple nail technique that I picked up on another blog...it's so easy, ANYONE can do it!

I'm not a scrapbooker, so when I picked up a few of those REALLLLLYYY small punches at Michael's for $1 each, I thought,"What'd I buy these for?!" Well now I know! Nail art!

 You can use whatever design you want, and make a super cute shape on your nail! Here's how!

 I used some masking tape, stamped a design onto it, and VOILA!

 And isn't that color so cute?! It's just a basic wet n wild color, but I use a good base coat and top coat I got from Sally Beauty Supply. I'm loving my summer nail color!

What's your favorite summer nail color?

Love you all!

Cute DIY Planter Box Centerpiece!

Happy Monday!

 I trust you all had a fabulous weekend! I did. We went to my favorite barbecue restaurant for Mother's day, and then just spent some awesome time with my Husband and kiddos!

 Today I want to share a cute, inexpensive centerpiece!

 I originally saw this on Shanty 2 Chic, and I fell.in.love. I was looking for something that could roll into summer and possibly even be a summer centerpiece-I think this is it!

 Sorry I didn't take tutorial pics-Whitney did a great tutorial, so hop on over there to get the exact step by step on how to make this!

 Supplies needed-

* 1 1x6x6 board from Home Depot or Lowes
* 1 2x4x shortest length they have
* Wood Glue
* Nails
* Mason Jars
* Flowers
* Jute

I cut my 1x6 in half, leaving me with two 3 ft. boards
I then cut my 2x4 to 3 ft, and cut two 4" blocks off of my remaining piece of 2x4.

I used wood glue and nails to assemble the sides and blocks, and the box was done! Now I decorated the mason jar tops with jute, stuck my Dollar Tree flowers into the jars and there ya have it! A super cute, super versatile centerpiece for under $20!

And I just HAD to show off those AMAZING chairs I got at the thrift store awhile back for 9.00 a piece....LOVVVE how they turned out, and how they give more character to our table!

 Thanks for the idea, sisters! I love it :)

 Do you guys?!

And there was light!

 Busy Busy Busy! You know how it is!

 Today I want to share with you a lamp and lampshade redo. Remember this hideous lamp I got from the thrift store for $3.00?  (#4)

 Yeah, my Husband's eyes just about fell out of his head when he saw this shade. He must have thought I lost my mind. But bless his heart, he kept that to himself :) Good Husband!

 Well, I sat there for a bit wondering what could be done with this beastly lampshade. And like THAT! an idea came to me.

 So I ripped off the tacky lace, wiped it down with a damp washcloth and went to work........
I hot glued 847236375643786 cut out circles all around the shade!

 I then finished it off with bias tape around the top and bottom; and I had a nice, COOL lookin' lampshade!

 Awesome, huh?! I think so.

 Oh, and see that sweet print on the wall? I borrowed the idea from my girl over at Girl In Air, and yes, it REALLY is that cheap to print it out! Mine was $2.99, and it fits PERFECT right on that wall in my guestroom. It has been a hit so far, can't wait to see what future guests think of it!

(It's not crooked, I was tilting the camera...DOH!)

Here's a close up of what the picture looks like...be still, my heart. She's just so precious :)

Happy Thursday friends!

DIY Window Valance

When I finished my kitchen, I realized that I needed something cute for the window but TOTALLY on the cheap because.....well, because that's how I roll.

 So along came this sweet little valance!

 ('scuse my window, all the windows in my house have buildup in between the double panes...ANNOYING! We'll eventually replace them, when windows get cheaper or.....whatever)

It's a twin bed sheet, cut and black ribbon added to the bottom! Picked up some curtain clips, spray painted a PVC pipe and added some finials I found for a $1.00 at a thrift store to the ends! There ya have it, a DIY curtain rod on the CHEAP!

I'm LOVIN' IT!
