Our Laundry Room

So! I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! Ours was hectic and busy, but fun!

We visited downtown L.A., and my Husband was able to get TWO suits for a fantastic deal-they are REALLY sharp! It's so fun down there...there's fabrics, beads, ribbons, jewelry, clothes, etc. etc. etc. LOVE being close enough to be able to take a trip down there for things like that!

So today I'm going to share my laundry room with you all! This was one of our FIRST projects, and I must say, it's a tie between the laundry room and the hallway on which one is my FAVORITE project!

When we first got our house, we were in need of a new washer and dryer-FAST! Our washer's latch was broken, so the door would fly open several times throughout the wash if there wasn't something heavy on top, and the dryer took about 3 hours to dry-which was just NOT GONNA WORK! So we got new ones :) However, we discovered that the pedestals for these silly little things were gonna be $200 a PIECE!

 Uhhmm....how 'bout....NO.

So we needed to build one, and THAT we DID!

As you can see, I have the WORLD'S SMALLEST LAUNDRY ROOM-so we had to try and utilize every square inch. I am so proud of the pedestal table that my Husband built! He slaved over it on a Saturday, sick as a dog with snot running down his face and all! Cute visual, huh?! Really though, he put his sweat into this thing, and I just LOVE it.

I still want to distress my pedestal and need to get some decor going in the laundry room, but it looks 10000% better already! WOO!

So this is the process of how it came to be:

There was two of these, but only one pictured here

This is the top, but upside down so my Hubs can attach the bottom
Progress being made....

With the plywood in place

More screws...

All finished and in place! PERFECT fit for such a small room!

I .HEART. my laundry room!

  12. This is great! At least you have a laundry room, mine is in my bathroom. And I have to run it twice to dry anything. But this is great and an awesome idea. I also LOVE downtown LA for all the awesome things you can get! Love the blog and i am your newest follower!

  13. This is great! I love your idea! I think we really need to do this too because it's a pain to have to get down on your knees to unload the washer. Looks great!

  15. Found you on Craft-o-maniac. This is such an ingenious idea! I like not having pedestals right now because my little ones can help with their own laundry. But when they are a bit bigger and I'm ready for pedestals I am so doing this! It is a great way to get those laundry baskets out of the middle of the floor. I love, love love it!!!! I can't say enough!

  16. Great idea for lifting those puppies up a bit. We have the front loaders & have ours stacked right now. Our laundry facility is in an oversized closet that is about 3" lower than the surrounding floors just in case a hose breaks or there is a flood of some kind. Anyhoo, that makes the washer just that much lower than it would be if it were sitting even with the surrounding floor. I'm tellin' ya', that's hard on the old back. It will be different in the next house. I'm new to your blog, visiting from Kara's Whassup Wednesday. I'm also a new follower & I hope you will check out my blog & follow back if it looks interesting to you.

  23. I just found your blog and am your newest follower. I couldn't handle to price tag for the pedestals either so our washer and dryer are just hanging out on the floor, but building some extra storage underneath is such a fabulous idea! Thanks for the awesome idea and tutorial. My hubby just had a new honey-do added to his list!!

  24. It looks great! (I think our laundry rooms are about the same size.) Found you from Whipperberry.

  25. I heart your laundry room too! You know, I have a similar washer/dryer and I bought the drawer to go under them. But I never use them for anything but to hold the machines up higher. The drawers sit there all empty while I try to figure out where to put the baskets. This idea is so great. I'm inspired to figure out a place for my extra stuff. Love it! Thanks. Lisa~

  29. Hi! My hubs and I love the job you guys did on your pedestal! Could you email me and let me know the height between the first and second platforms? My email is wayla0422@gmail.com. Great job!!

  30. I forwarded this to my hubby! Poor guy, I make it so hard for him to get the stuff he wants to get done with all my projects. It's unfortunate I am scared of power tools or I could do more...and by now he's scared for me to use them! If it is any comfort your laundry room...looks..EXACTLY like mine! The worst part is it is right in the entry hall way too...blah.

    Love it!

  33. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog!

I don't know about you, but when the sales person told me the bases were $200 a piece I couldn't help but ask him if he was serious. Me - "It's a metal box." Sales - "It's a pedestal with a drawer for extra storage." Me - "It's still a metal box. Not gonna happen." Hahaha!

    Great minds think alike :D

  35. Love it! Can I steal this idea, Janet??! The laundry room in our Florida mobile home is about the same size and in need of a revamp. My hubby is handy with 2x4s and power tools, too. ;)

  41. My laundry room is set up the same as yours and I just ordered my first front loaders. I am concerned about the vent on the dryer. Did you have any problems with this? And thanks for sharing!

  42. When we get a front loading washer/dryer, my hubby is going to build a pedestal for them as well. I think I want drawers to be able to hide a few things, but I love the look of the baskets! Your sweet hubby did a fantastic job! Can't wait to see how you decorate it next!

  43. I just ordered some front loaders. I totally want to do this, but my mom is worried that the washing machine will fall off a homemade pedestal. Have you had any issues with it moving too much?

    ReplyDelete
  44. Can you tell me how you went about getting the washer/dryer on top of the pedestal with the small laundry room bc I am having that challenge right now
